MARTA will be running at peak schedule on weekdays. During the weekends, service schedules are reduced. The Red Line and the Gold Line both go to and from the airport. The Buckhead Station is your stop for the hotel. The Grand Hyatt is an easy walk even with luggage. Exit the station to the right. This on the same street as our hotel, 3 blocks or so.
To check out other neighborhoods, two other lines run west/east routes.
Weekends and evenings, MARTA stops at Lindbergh Center, and you need to change trains to get to the Buckhead Station. Another after hours option is to take the Gold Line from downtown to Lenox Square (mall). If you do not mind a bit of a hike, walk from Lenox Station to the Buckhead Station. Do not recommend this option if you have luggage.
The Parking Panda app is available in Atlanta. Making reservations are cheaper than the $20 per day fee. If you are using it for back to back days, make a separate reservation for each day. Also, some of the garages in the area only allow a single entry and exit.
Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead makes parking easy by offering guests two great parking options. For guests who prefer to take matters into their own hands, they offer self-parking facilities adjacent to the hotel. The daily fee is $32. Guests also may take advantage of indoor valet parking. With in/out privileges, valet parking is provided at a rate of $42 per day. Hotel parking is available 24 hours at Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead. If you need assistance, please call 404-237-1234 x4780. (Subject to change. Availablity may vary.)
Start your travel from the hotel at 3 or 4 pm to give youself a chance to see some of the historic sites, that may close early, before wandering over to a dinner location. To explore the Eastside neighborhood “Sweet Auburn” that includes the Martin Luther King Memorial and other related historic destinations, center your activity between Auburn and Edgewood Avenues as a starting point. Many of the historic sites in this neighborhood close by 6 pm in the summer, although they are open 7 days a week.
Another activity in the same area is a glass blowing session at Janke Studio, which is located in StudioPlex. It is about a 9 minute walk from Edgewood Ave. Then it is only a few steps away to Krog Street Market (adjacent to an entrance for the Atlanta Belt Line).
Another similar location for exploration is the Ponce City Market which is a bit north of the area (also adjacent to an entrance for the Atlanta Belt Line). Ponce City Market is a larger and more interesting choice in the area known as the “Old Fourth Ward.” It has dining options, and would be a better choice on a Saturday. The main building closes at 6 pm on Sunday. The challenge here is the logistics for transportation. Taking MARTA from the Buckhead Station to the main transfer point is another option.
