Guidelines for NASIG Poster Sessions

Submit Proposal for Poster Sessions

Poster session presenters should be ready to introduce themselves to attendees and to discuss their poster session topic during the entire time allotted.

  • Bring an ample supply of business cards, as well as some copies of your submission and relevant documents.
  • You may also want to provide a sign-up sheet to record the names and e-mail addresses of attendees who might wish more information, reprints, etc.

Poster session presenters are creating a graphic bulletin board 8' (wide) by 4' (high). Clarity and simplicity in conveying information are key.

  • Displays which present information visually - in figures, tables, graphs, charts or photographs - are especially appreciated by poster session audiences. Captions on illustrations are helpful.
  • Simplicity and legibility are more important than artistic embellishments. For example, some color combinations, although attractive, may be difficult to read, especially if lighting is not optimal.
  • Posters' contents should be displayed in an well-organized and coherent fashion. A logical sequence to the presentation of information - e.g., an introduction, developments/findings, and a conclusion - is helpful.
  • The audience more easily understands uncluttered displays.
  • Materials, including text legends and captions on figures or tables, should be legible from a distance of about six feet, which generally means using fonts that are at least 18 pt.

Additional resources may be presented to support poster sessions' contents.

  • Limited table space is available for handouts and additional display materials. Conference attendees appreciate handouts.
  • Presenters are responsible for setting up and taking down their posters. Presenters should come prepared to put their displays one hour before the poster session begins.
  • Remember to bring pins, thumbtacks, tape, or other supplies that you will need for posting your presentation.
  • Remember to bring paper or cloth to cover the background if you want a specific background color.
  • Materials to be displayed should be prepared before you arrive. Do not count on having the necessary supplies available at the conference.
  • Poster sessions are to be taken down after 5:30 PM.
