About NASIG

Translators Resource Team

Charge
Recognizing the diversity of languages among serialists within North America, the purpose of the Translators Resource team is to assist the Executive Board, committees, and task forces with translating materials in any format or for any NASIG purpose to and/or from English, French, and Spanish.

To request the Team's translation services, please send a description of the item needing translation to the Team. Include in your message:

  • the language of the original item
  • which (or all) of the Team's 3 languages to which it should be translated
  • a brief description of the subject content of the original item, including if it involves any technical vocabulary which may require subject expertise or jargon
  • a brief description of the purpose of the translated version and what will be done with the translated version (such as publicity to be distributed via NASIGWeb, NASIG-L, or other organizations' lists; internal information to be placed in Members Only space in NASIGWeb, etc.)
  • deadline by which you need the final translated version
  • your name and e-mail address, and which NASIG group is requesting this translation

Note:

  • Include the item as an attachment only if it is less than approximately 28 kb in size (example: slightly more than 1 standard page of single space text in an MS Word file)
  • If the original is too large to send as an attachment as noted above, you will need to send it later, directly to the TRT member who volunteers to do the translation, after you have been contacted by that person (see below)
  • If the item is significantly smaller that this 1-page maximum for attachments, you may include it within the body of your e-mail request or send it as an attachment
  • An online form will be provided soon to replace this e-mail request method

Your message will automatically be forwarded to the Team's group address. The Team will decide which of its member(s) will take responsibility for providing translation of the item. This person(s) will then contact you to:

  • let you know who will handle the translation
  • arrange for receipt of the original (if not already included in the message or as an attachment)
  • work with you as needed throughout the translation process
