POSITION DESCRIPTIONS SUBMISSIONS EDITOR Rev 9-13-05
The Submissions Editor works closely with the Editor-in-Chief and other Newsletter Editorial Board members to ensure timely and effective production and dissemination of the NASIG Newsletter, and to develop and implement improvements for its process, policies, content, structure, and appearance.
SPECIFIC, ROUTINE TASKS: * Following established guidelines, solicit articles by NASIG members or others about non-NASIG or NASIG co-sponsored serials-related events * Serve as the primary contact person for those people with whom the Submission Editor arranges for submissions * Within the context of this position?s work, provide good public relations representation for NASIG to non-NASIG members * Ensure receipt of all arranged submissions in adequate time, usually 1 week, to allow the Submissions Editor to copy edit the article and resolve any questions with the article?s author, prior to the Submission Editor?s forwarding the ready article to the Editor-in-Chief by the deadline of the issue for which the article is scheduled * With the Editor-in-Chief, maintain content and submission guidelines, schedule of arranged submissions, and a list of desired and potential submissions.
REQUIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: reliability; flexibility; initiative; creativity; dedication to providing high quality and timely service and product; good self-organization and planning skills; ability to work on submissions for several issues at a time and over a lengthy time-table; effective communication skills; ability to maintain good working relationships with others, esp. within a geographically dispersed team; convenient use of an email program
DESIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: basic skills with a recent Windows version of Microsoft Word; convenient use of an e-mail program that can handle attachments
