POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
PDF EDITOR

The PDF Editor works closely with the Editor-in-Chief and other Newsletter Editorial Board members to ensure timely and effective production of the .pdf version of the NASIG Newsletter, and to develop and implement improvements for its process, policies, content, structure, and appearance. Production of individual Newsletter issues often requires short periods of intensive work within short turn-around times. Members of the Newsletter Editorial Board routinely find this commitment requires occasional evening and/or weekend hours.

SPECIFIC, ROUTINE TASKS:
* Combine all contents (received from the Copy Editor and/or Editor-in-Chief) of an issue into 1 file
* Complete all layout tasks, following the established style sheet
* Create display-type announcements or space-fillers as needed
* Provide quality control through extensive and careful proof-reading of layout details
* Send a copy of each draft to the Editor-in-Chief when ready for further proofreading
* Input edits determined by the Editor-in-Chief and/or any designee assisting with quality control
* Work through as many drafts as determined to be necessary by the Editor-in-Chief
* Send a final, clean copy in .pdf of each completed issue to the Editor-in-Chief

REQUIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: reliability; flexibility; initiative; creativity; dedication to producing a high quality and timely product; visual knack for analysis of page layout; strong detail-oriented approach to work; ability to maintain good working relationships with others others, esp. within a geographically dispersed team; convenient use of an e-mail program; experience with, and convenient access to, a current or relatively recent version of a sophisticated word processing program; experience with and access to Adobe Acrobat for file conversion; effective communication and organization skills

DESIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: advanced skills with, and convenient access to, a Windows version of Microsoft Word; convenient use of an e-mail program that can handle attachments
