POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
HTML EDITOR

The HTML Editor works closely with the Editor-in-Chief, other Newsletter Editorial Board members, and the ECC Liaison, to ensure timely and effective production of the online NASIG Newsletter, and to develop and implement improvements for its process, policies, content, structure, and appearance. If other members of the Newsletter Editorial Board assist with the process of producing the html files Newsletter, the HTML Editor coordinates the process (determines how to, and distributes, the files accordingly; assists as necessary; ensures goals of timeliness and quality control are accomplished; and keeps the Editor-in-Chief informed about the process and progress).
Production of individual Newsletter issues often requires short periods of intensive work within short turn-around times. Members of the Newsletter Editorial Board routinely find this commitment often requires occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
SPECIFIC, ROUTINE TASKS:
* Produce all or part of the html version of each issue, following the established style sheet
* Enhance content by adding appropriate hyperlinks, images, etc.
* Use MS FrontPage to load and edit files on NASIGWeb
* Provide quality control through extensive and careful proof-reading and checking all hyperlinks
* Notify the Editor-in-Chief when drafts of files are ready for further proof-reading
* Input edits determined by the Editor-in-Chief and/or any designee assisting with quality control
* Work through as many drafts as determined to be necessary by the Editor-in-Chief
* When issue is ready to be made available to the membership, add a link to it from the Newsletter Index page
* Update the dynamic calendar (based on submissions from the Calendar Editor) on NASIGWeb (http://www.nasig.org/newsletters/dynamic_calendar.html)
* Include a copy of the dynamic calendar file for each Newsletter issue, by using a the current copy of the calendar from a date in the midst of html production work for the issue
* Provide an online version of minutes of Executive Board meetings that occur well before the next Newsletter issue is scheduled for production: convert the word processing file supplied by the NASIG Secretary to html, load it into the space it will eventually occupy when it become part of the next Newsletter issue
REQUIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: reliability; flexibility; initiative; creativity; detail oriented; dedication to producing a high quality and timely product; visual knack for analysis of page layout; ability to maintain good working relationships with others, esp. within a geographically dispersed team; convenient use of an e-mail program; excellent HTML skills; effective communication and organization skills
DESIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: experience producing html; experience with Microsoft Frontpage; convenient use of an e-mail program that can handle attachments (word processing, html, pdf and graphics files)
