POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

The Editor-in-Chief works closely with the Newsletter Editorial Board members, the NASIG President and Board, and other NASIG committees and members, to ensure timely and effective production of the NASIG Newsletter, and to develop and implement improvements for its process, policies, content, structure, and appearance. Production of individual Newsletter issues often requires short periods of intensive work within short turn-around times. Members of the Newsletter Editorial Board routinely find this commitment requires occasional evening and/or weekend hours.

SPECIFIC, ROUTINE TASKS:
* Ensure the Newsletter fulfills its purposes as defined by the Executive Board
* Maintain the publication schedule and roster
* Oversee all Newsletter concerns
* Coordinate production processes
* Receive and approve submissions
* Maintain the Newsletter online manual/staff website
* Represent the Newsletter at NASIG Board meetings as an ex-officio of the Board
* Serve as the primary Newsletter contact for NASIG and non-NASIG groups
* Handle all administrative tasks required by Newsletter processes
* Proof-read all drafts of all versions of each issue
* Provide training, support, and guidance to Newsletter Editorial Board members as needed
* Handle the process of filling vacant Newsletter Editorial Board positions, and ensure related tasks are completed during vacancies
* Consult with Executive Board liaison as needed
* Provide all short-term and long-term planning needed for effective and efficient functioning of the Newsletter and its Editorial Board

REQUIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: reliability; flexibility; initiative; creativity; dedication to producing a high quality and timely product; detail-oriented; visual knack for analysis of page layout; ability to maintain good working relationships with others, esp. within a geographically dispersed team; convenient use of an e-mail program; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent organization skills; excellent HTML skills (knowledge of both hard code and preferably MS FrontPage)

DESIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS: knowledge of NASIG goals, structure, and resources; advanced skills with a recent Windows version of Microsoft Word; convenient use of an e-mail program that can handle attachments.
