North American Serials Interest Group2009 NASIG CONFERENCE MEXICAN STUDENT GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT The North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) invites Mexican students of Library Science and Information Science to apply for the NASIG Grant for Mexican Students 2009, and to attend the 24th annual NASIG conference, "Riding the Rapids Through a Mountain of Change," which will be held in, Asheville, North Carolina, June 4-7, 2009. This conference takes place every year, and is held in Spring or early Summer. Different segments of the community interested in serial publications (publishers, vendors, librarians, etc.) come together to learn and to share information. The conference includes presentations, panels, workshops, and social events. Established in 1985, NASIG is an international organization with more than 2000 members, dedicated to the promotion, communication and cooperation among individuals that work with serial publications. SCOPE OF AWARD: This grant serves as assistance to a Mexican student of Library Science or Information Science, who wants to learn and develop professionally in the area of serial publications. The grant offers the opportunity to get together and to collaborate with a large group of professionals working in all areas of serial publications. The grant offers a participant an introduction to the work of NASIG by means of financial assistance for participation in the annual conference. NASIG will pay for lodging, transportation and registration to the annual conference. Additionally the recipient will receive a free year of membership in NASIG. The recipient must submit a written report to NASIG about their experiences at the conference and what they learned, which will be published in the NASIG Newsletter. ELIGIBILITY: Grant applicants must be currently registered in a university/school program for Library Science or Information Science, and must not be working in a professional capacity. Basic knowledge of the English language is required, as all events at NASIG are presented in English. The applicant should also have an interest in some aspect of serial publications, such as, acquisitions, sales and distribution, publication, cataloging, etc. The applicant must not have already attended a prior NASIG conference. Applications emailed after this date will not be considered. AWARD NOTIFICATION: The award recipient will be notified by March 31, 2009.
