Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to NASIG 2010!  We will make efforts to update this page as questions arise during the conference.

Accompanying Guests: NASIG welcomes your family and friends to a stay in scenic Palm Springs, California, with options to attend conference events, enjoy amenities at the resort, or sightsee in the Coachella Valley area. The guest rate for the receptions is $60 for each event.

Airport Shuttle: SuperShuttle is offering NASIG a 15% discount for each way between all area airports and the resort.  Please see details regarding this offer and more options for ground transportation from Palm Springs and Los Angeles/Ontario airports on the Travel page.

ADA Requests: If you have limited mobility, please indicate your needs on your registration.

Boarding Passes, printing: The resort is equipped with a full-service business center for printing of boarding passes.

Business Meeting: Held from 4:00-5:30pm in Salon D & E on Friday, June 4.  Come and voice your ideas on the present and future of NASIG.  Agenda and brainstorming topic available on the Program page.

Checks: Make checks payable to NASIG in US Dollars.

Child Care: NASIG is not able to provide child care nor screen available services for conference attendees. However, our local volunteers are quite willing to consult with you and give suggestions and help.

City Information: See "Explore Palm Springs" on main page. Printed materials will be available at the Registration Desk and at the resort.

Clothing/Dress: In keeping with NASIG tradition, casual attire is recommended: shorts, slacks, t-shirts, sandals, comfortable shoes, etc., with a light sweater or jacket in case the weather cools, especially at night and early morning.  Be prepared for a summer desert climate.

Committee Meetings: Meetings will be held on Saturday, June 5, from 4:30-5:30pm.  See that day's Program Schedule for details and room assignment.

Conference Registration: The full conference rate is $375 for members, reduced to $350 for early registration in honor of NASIG's 25th Anniversary; $500 for non-members; $150 per day (one day maximum).  See the Registration page for more information.

Credit Cards: NASIG accepts VISA and MasterCard only. Information must include the name as it appears on the card, the expiration date, and the three digit security code on the back of the card.

Debit Cards: NASIG accepts only checks and Visa or Master Card credit cards. Our bank recommends against accepting debit cards for registrations due to security issues and our inability to give refunds against a debit card. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dine-Arounds: There are a multitude of restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the Rancho Las Palmas Resort. If you are dining on your own, you should find no lack of good food and atmosphere.

Hashtag: Twitter tweets have been given the hashtag #nasig.

Hotel Registration: Your hotel reservation confirmation may show a $25 resort fee.  Please note that this fee is included in the negotiated room rate for NASIG attendees and should not show up on as a separate charge on your final bill.  The resort's reservation system automatically includes mention of the resort fee.

Informal Discussion Groups will meet from 3:30-4:30pm on Saturday, June 5.  They are intended to offer an opportunity for informal conversation about a chosen topic. A moderator may help facilitate the discussion.  Details are provided in the schedule for that day and in the program.

Internet Access: Wireless internet access will be provided in the meeting rooms, loby, and general resort areas, as well as in the sleeping rooms. NOTE: The resort offers an internet upgrade for your room at check-in at an additional charge--this is separate from what is included in the "resort fee" amenities. You should NOT need to sign up for this upgrade.

Membership: Not a NASIG member? Join NASIG or renew your membership today and receive the membership conference and pre-conference rates. NASIG membership will save you $125 off of the full conference rate.

Parking: The Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa offers complimentary on-site parking.

Poster Sessions: Posters will be on display from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 5th.  Presenters will be available to discuss their topics from 3:00-3:30pm on this day. Poster sessions provide an informal opportunity for members to share graphic representations of current research, programs, or creative solutions to library problems.  See the Poster Sessions.

Purchase Orders: NASIG has no way of handling purchase orders.

Receipts: You may easily print a receipt for your registration when you register online.

Rental Cars: Rental cars may be the best option if you are flying into an airport other than Palm Springs or Los Angeles/Ontario airports.  Please see the Travel page on our Conference Web for other travel options, including SuperShuttle's NASIG discount offer.

Session types:
- Poster: Poster sessions provide an informal opportunity for members to share graphic representations of current research, programs, or creative solutions to library problems These are scheduled to be presented during break periods to allow attendees to munch and sip and visit with the creators of the sessions and learn from each other.
- Tactics: designed to address day-to-day issues and generally deal with one or two practical aspects of the serials world such as "How we do it well at Fantastic University." Will overlap in the schedule with each other and strategy sessions, but are often duplicated.
- Strategy: generally deal with all or, at least, several segments of the serials world including but not limited or publishers, vendors, service providers and librarians. Bigger picture topics. Often overlap in the schedule with tactics sessions.
- Vision: offered at no-conflict time with other sessions or events to allow all attendees to participate. These programs generally deal with the larger universe of ideas and issues that may influence the serials world.

Shuttle from the Airport: SuperShuttle is offering a 15% discount for each way to and from all area airports (Palm Springs, Los Angeles/Ontario, Long Beach, Orange County, Burbank, Los Angeles International). Spa: The Rancho Las Palmas offers a full menu of spa services.

Speakers' Breakfast: 7:30-8:30 am, Friday, June 4, Salon 1-3. Get specifics, meet with your introducers and recorders. Get instructions and the schedule for filing your papers or reports.

Transportation between the Hotel and Airport(s): Transportation options include taxi, shuttle and rental cars.  See the Travel page.

User Group Meetings: The purpose of the User Groups is to share product implementation or development experiences and ideas.  User Group attendeess will have an opportunity to discuss topics of common interest in a non-commercial setting.  These groups meet will be meeting on Saturday, from 3:30-4:30pm.  Details are provided in the schedule for that day and in the program.

Volunteers at the Conference Host Site (Non-CPC members): Volunteers are recruited locally to do miscellaneous tasks, such as helping with registration, guiding people to offsite locations, etc. They are students and library staff who are not attending the conference. In return for volunteering they are permitted to attend a couple of sessions the day they volunteer. NASIG does not permit conference attendees to also serve as volunteers for a reduction in fees.

Weather: Palm Springs offers a hot and dry desert climate. Temperatures may reach the triple digits during the day, but cool in the evening. National Weather Service Forecast
