Frequently Asked QuestionsAccompanying guests: We welcome your family and friends to Louisville. The guest price for the reception on Thursday night is $60.00 per person. If you are registered for the full conference or for the one day conference rate for Thursday the reception is included in that fee. The optional cruise on Saturday night will be $60 per guest and $45 for conference attendees. This is not included in your conference fee, so if you would like to attend or attend and bring a guest, you will need to pay for yourself and the guest. ADA transportation: If you have limited mobility please indicate on your registration. If we know your needs in advance, we can plan for accessible transportation for the Thursday and Saturday night off-site events. Business Meeting: Be present Friday at lunch and make your preferences known on the present and future of NASIG. Cab fare to and from the airport: Expect it to cost between $15 and $20 plus tip. (see other options under Transportation) Cancel: Cancellations received on or before April 30 will be refunded the full registration amount paid minus a $50 processing fee. A cancellation fee of 50% of registration costs plus a $50 processing fee will be applied for cancellations received between May 2 and May 22. No refund will be issued for cancellations received after May 22. Late requests for refunds due to an emergency only will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All cancellations must be sent in writing via fax or email to the conference registrar. Expect confirmation within two days. The final decision on refunds rests with the NASIG President and Treasurer. Checks: Make checks payable to NASIG in US Dollars. Child Care: NASIG is not able to provide child care for conference attendees. Babysitting and youth care service are available by the Galt House's preferred vendor Kid*s Fun Connection. (NASIG does not in any way screen these services or assure quality or reliability. These names are made available for your consideration and review.) City Bus (from the Airport): Catch the #2 Second Street bus at the Airport's Lee Terminal. It will take you to 4th St. and Main St. right across from the Galt House. Cost is $1.00 each way. Consult the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) website for more detailed route information. Clothing/Dress: In keeping with NASIG tradition, casual attire is recommended: shorts, slacks, t-shirts, sandals, comfortable shoes, etc. Please keep in mind that a sweater or jacket may be useful as the hotel air conditioning may cause some rooms to be cool. Conference Registration: The full conference rate is $375 for members and $500 for non-members; $150 per day (one day maximum). On-site Conference registration will be on the 2nd floor of the East Tower of the Galt House during the following times: Wednesday 4:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m.Thursday 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Friday 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Saturday 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Courier-Journal: Louisville's newspaper. There are a few newspapers available at the Galt House concierge desk each morning. Credit cards: NASIG accepts VISA and MasterCard only. Information must include the name as it appears on the card, the expiration date, and the three digit security code on the back of the card. Debit cards: NASIG accepts only checks and Visa or Master Card credit cards. Our bank recommends against accepting debit cards for registrations due to security issues and our inability to give refunds against a debit card. Thank you for your cooperation. Dine-Arounds: For Friday and Saturday nights, back by popular demand. Sign up sheets for local restaurants with menus will be available near the registration desk. The reception precedes the opening reception and is a great way to start the conference. First-timers have the opportunity to be mentored by a person who has attended at least one previous NASIG conference. Information about the mentoring program and the application form are available on the NASIG Mentoring website. The deadline for applying is TBA. Fun Run/Walk: Join your NASIG colleagues bright and early at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, wearing your sneakers, and take a pre-arranged run/walk near the hotel along the Ohio River in downtown Louisville. The 3 mile run/walk is intended to be taken at your own pace. Hotel: The Galt House Hotel at 140 North Fourth Street in Louisville, KY will serve as the official conference hotel for NASIG 2007. Check-in at the Galt House is after 3 p.m., and check-out is by 11:00 a.m. Bags can be checked at the Galt House bellman stand for $1.00 per bag. A 15.01% tax applies to all rooms. This program is offered to people who would like to be mentored or who would like to mentor a newcomer to the NASIG Conference. It is an easy way to meet colleagues and share your knowledge with others. The only requirement to be a mentee is attendance at the NASIG Conference. For mentors, we ask that you have attended at least one previous NASIG Conference, are willing to meet with your mentee at the conference, and take a few minutes to contact them before the conference. The deadline for applications is TBA. After we receive your applications, we will pair you up and then contact you with the name of your partner and guidelines. This program has worked successfully for several years and we look forward to your participation this year. Opening Program: The Opening Program will take place on Thursday, 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Our NASIG President Denise Novak will greet you followed by a local welcome from Dean Hannelore Rader of the University of Louisville Libraries. Professor Tom Owen will speak about the history of Louisville. Tom Owen is a full professor at the University of Louisville, and has been a history instructor, archivist and community relations associate at U of L since 1968. He is well known as a local historian and is a frequent contributor to radio and television features. Owen conducts tours of local sights and is a speaker on state and local history. He holds a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Kentucky; a master's in history from U of L; a bachelor of divinity from Methodist Theological School in Ohio; and a bachelor of arts degree from Kentucky Wesleyan. Parking: Galt House has two convenient covered parking garages. Both garages can be accessed directly from the lobby. Passenger vehicle parking is $9.00 per day. Consult the downtown Louisville parking map for additional parking options. Payphones: Payphones are located on the first floors of the Galt House East and West towers. Poster Sessions: Posters will be on display in the East Exhibit Hall of the Galt House Hotel from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1st. Presenters will be available to discuss their topics during two break periods during this day. Poster sessions provide an informal opportunity for members to share graphic representations of current research, programs, or creative solutions to library problems. Shuttle from the airport: For guest convenience the Galt House, our conference hotel, offers prearranged airport transportation with your hotel reservation. To take advantage of this prearrangement, please call (502) 561-4022 in advance of your arrival and provide your flight number and arrival time. Speakers' Breakfast: 6:30 a.m.-7:30 a.m. Friday June 1st. Get specifics, meet up with your introducers and recorders. Get instructions and the schedule for filing your papers or reports. Strategy sessions: generally deal with all or, at least, several segments of the serials world including but not limited or publishers, vendors, service providers and librarians. Bigger picture topics. Often overlap in the schedule with tactics sessions. Tactics sessions: designed to address day-to-day issues and generally deal with one or two practical aspects of the serials world - such as "How we do it well at Fantastic University". Will overlap in the schedule with each other and strategy sessions, but are often duplicated. Tours: Tours will be offered on Thursday, May 31st and Sunday June 3rd. Tour times are below and descriptions can be found on the Tours webpage. All tours are being offered by City and Countryside Tours and must be paid for in advance on the registration form.
Transportation between the Hotel and Airport:
Volunteers at the Conference Host Site (Non-CPC members): Volunteers are recruited locally to do miscellaneous tasks, such as helping with registration, selling souvenirs, guiding people to offsite locations, etc. They are students and library staff who are not attending the conference. In return for volunteering they are permitted to attend a couple sessions the day they volunteer. NASIG does not permit conference attendees to also serve as volunteers for a reduction in fees. Weather: The weather in late May/early June normally is very mild, with daytime temperatures averaging 75-80 degrees and evening temperatures in the 60's. Cooler temperatures and rain is always possible, so it would be wise to pack a light sweater or jacket to ensure comfort.
