Frequently Asked Questions
Accompanying guests: We welcome your family and friends to Denver. Guest tickets to the Thursday evening reception at Red Rocks are $60 each and can be purchased when registering for the conference. The reception is included in the full conference registration, as is breakfast and lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If guests would like to have breakfast or lunch with NASIG conference attendees, meal tickets can be purchased for $24 each at the conference registration desk at the hotel. Meal tickets will be sold on a first come/first served basis.
ADA transportation: if you have limited mobility please so indicate on your registration. If we know your needs in advance, we can plan for accessible motor coaches for the Thursday night off-site event at Red Rocks. Also, if you are attending a pre-conference that is held outside of the hotel, please let us know if you will need ADA transportation and we will accommodate you.
Cab fare to and from the airport: We expect it to cost about $50 plus tip. City bus and shuttles are more economical. See "Ground Transportation" details on the Travel page.
Cancel: If you have to cancel your registration, cancellations received on or before April 5 will be refunded the full registration amount paid minus a $50 processing fee. A cancellation fee of 50% of registration costs plus a $50 processing fee will be applied for cancellations received between April 6 and April 24. No refund will be issued for cancellations received after April 24. Late requests for refunds due to an emergency only will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
All cancellations must be sent in writing via fax, email or regular mail to the conference registrar. Please fax or email cancellations, if possible, and expect confirmation within two days. If necessary to cancel by USPS, please allow sufficient time for a response. The final decision on refunds rests with the NASIG President and Treasurer.
Checks: Make checks out to NASIG in US Dollars.
Child Care: NASIG is not able to provide child care for conference attendees. The Marriott does not offer nanny services, but has offered the following three services for your consideration:

Conference Registration: The full conference rate is $375 for members and $475 for non-members. April 11, 2006 is the deadline to benefit from the early registration rate.
Credit card: NASIG accepts VISA and MasterCard only. Information must include the name as it appears on the card, the expiration date, and the three digit security code on the back of the card.
Debit card: NASIG accepts only checks and Visa and MasterCard. Our bank recommends against accepting debit cards for registrations due to security issues and our inability to give refunds against a debit card. Thank you for your cooperation.
DEN is the symbol for the airport serving Denver (known as "DIA" to locals-- Denver International Airport).
Dine-arounds: For Friday and Saturday nights, back by popular demand. Sign up sheets for local restaurants with menus will be available near registration. Each restaurant will be within walking distance of the Marriott and a NASIG colleague will make reservations on your behalf, choose a meeting place in the Marriott and walk over to the restaurant with the group.
Evening events (planned) :
Thursday night dinner will take place at the lovely Red Rocks Visitor Center. Red Rocks Visitor Center is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Morrison, Colorado, 15 miles west of Denver, in the midst of an 816-acre park. Panoramic views of the mile-high city abound and we will be treated to videos of noteworthy musical performances at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Seven buses will make continuous loops from the Marriott to Red Rocks between 5:30 and 10:30 p.m. The first bus will begin boarding at 5:30 p.m. The trip from the Marriott to Red Rocks will take approximately 30 minutes. Buffet dinner service will begin at 7 p.m and continue to 9 p.m. The last bus will leave Red Rocks at 10:00 p.m.
Directions for those who'd like to drive themselves: Coming from Downtown, take I-70 west to exit 259, turn left at the bottom of the Morrison exit ramp, cruise on downhill 1.5 miles to the Red Rocks Park entrance. Coming from south Denver, take C-470 to the Morrison exit, turn west and follow the signs to the Park entrances. Click here for a map.
Friday night activities include dine-arounds and a downtown Art Walk.
Saturday night activities include dine-arounds and a Colorado Rockies baseball game.
First-Timers' Reception: The First-Timers' Reception will be held on Thursday, May 4th, from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. This event is held to welcome newcomers to the NASIG organization and conference, provide a venue for mentors and mentees to meet for the first time, and create networking opportunities. The reception precedes the opening reception and is a great way to start the conference.
First-timers have the opportunity to be mentored by a person who has attended at least one previous NASIG conference. Information about the mentoring program and the application form are available on the NASIG website. The deadline for applying is April 14.
Fun Run/Walk: Saturday morning, bright and early (6:00 AM) join your colleagues in your sneakers and take a pre-arranged run/walk. The 3 mile run/walk is intended to be taken at your own pace. Click here for full details and a map.
Hotel : The Denver Mariott City Center is the official conference hotel for NASIG's 21st annual meeting: http://www.nasig.org/2006_conference_hotel.cfm. Conference Hotel Rate: The conference room rates will be $105 per room/per day plus 14.85% tax.

Meals: Your NASIG registration includes Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast and lunch, Saturday breakfast and lunch, and Sunday breakfast and lunch.
Membership: Not a NASIG member? Join NASIG or renew your membership today at http://www.nasig.org/nasig_membership.cfm and receive the membership conference and pre-conference rates. NASIG membership will save you $100 off of the full conference rate and $50 off of the pre-conference rate.
Opening Program: 3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. Thursday. Our NASIG President Mary Page will greet you. Dr. Tom Noel will speak about the history of Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre.
Dr. Noel is Professor of History and Director of Public History, Preservation & Colorado Studies at the University of Colorado at Denver. He is the author or co-author of more than 33 books, many articles and the Saturday "Dr. Colorado" column for the Rocky Mountain News/ Denver Post. Among Professor Noel's works are Colorado: A History (Univ. Press of Colorado, 2005), and Sacred Stones: Colorado's Red Rock Park & Amphitheatre (City & County of Denver, 2004). A former librarian, Dr. Noel received his Masters in Library Science from the University of Denver in 1969.
Parking: Hotel valet parking is available for the following rates:

Poster Sessions: Posters will be on display in the conference registration area of the Denver Marriott City Center from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5th. Presenters will be available to discuss their topics during two break periods during this day. Poster sessions provide an informal opportunity for members to share graphic representations of current research, programs, or creative solutions to library problems. Pre-Conferences
Pre-conferences will be held Wednesday and Thursday, May 3-4. One of the 2-day pre-conferences will be held at the Auraria Library on the Auraria Campus, which can be reached easily from the hotel via light rail and a short walk. The light rail fare is $1.50 each way. The other will be held in the University of Colorado at Denver building on the edge of the Auraria Campus and can be reached by the free 16th Street Mall shuttle and a short walk.
Lunch will not be provided at the pre-conferences, but both locations have food available nearby.

2-day pre-conference, non-members: $175

Purchase Orders: NASIG has no way of handling purchase orders.
Receipts: You may easily print a receipt of your registration by entering your email and conference registration number on the Request a Conference Registration Receipt page.

Tours
Walking Tours
Walking tours of the city of Denver will be available as follows:
Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The tours will begin at the information kiosk locations along the 16th Street Mall. Payment for the walking tours will be collected at the start of the tour. The cost is $20 or $30 depending upon the tour. For tour descriptions, starting locations, and cost, go to the Tours page.
Library Tours
Tours of the Denver Public Library will be offered on Thursday at 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, and 2:30 p.m. Tours will begin at the information desk on the main floor of the library. The central library is located at 10 W. Fourteenth Avenue Parkway at the corner of Broadway and 13th Avenue. More information about Denver Public Library can be found at http://denverlibrary.org
Bus Tours
Two bus tours will be offered on Sunday afternoon as follows
Colorado Views Tour - 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Delights of Denver Tour - 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. - THIS TOUR HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Both tours will leave from the Denver Marriott City Center. The cost of each tour is $30. To sign up for a tour, send a check made out to Denver History Tours to Kevin Pharris at the address below indicating your tour choice. Please sign up as early as possible since space may be limited. The deadline for submitting a check for a tour is April 21. If fewer than 14 people sign up for a tour, the tour will be cancelled and checks will be returned.

Transportation Between the Hotel and Airport
Cab fare to and from the airport: We expect it to cost about $50 plus tip.
City Bus: RTD (the Denver bus system) and SkyRide from the Airport to Downtown. Public transit via city bus from Denver International Airport (DIA) to downtown Denver is called the RTD Skyride. The route you need is the AF route. It costs $8 one way and takes about 50 minutes (roundtrip advance purchase is a good bargain for $14). The website URL with schedules is: http://www.rtd-denver.com/. At the airport, board the Skyride RTD bus on the west side of the terminal at Island 5, outside Door 506. Or you may board from the east side of the terminal outside Door 511. Get off the bus at Market Street Station in downtown Denver. Then catch the free downtown 16th Street Mall shuttle located at the south exit of the Market Street Station. Ride the shuttle eastbound, 7 blocks, to California Street. The Marriott City Center is one block north of that stop, at 1701 California Street.
Rental Cars: all the choices are at the airport. Parking is available at the Hotel; see "Parking" above.

Weather and Clothing :
Denver enjoys the sort of mild, sunny, semiarid climate that makes the city a treat to visit. Expect sun and temperatures ranging from highs in the 60s to lows in the 40s. Bring your sunglasses but be prepared as we sometimes get late spring snowfalls. There will still be snow in the mountains for those interested in some winter-like fun.
